Terra Insight is a locally owned Australian firm operated by Karen Gates, a geotechnical engineer with more than 20 years’ experience in Australia and internationally.

Based in Wollongong, we take on work in Nowra, Batemans Bay, Shellharbour, throughout the Southern highlands and the surrounding regions. Karen has had an exciting career in geotechnical and environmental sciences, and has worked for major companies including ARUP Geotechnics, AECOM, Coffey and BHP Engineering.

She was the principal Engineer in Earth Structures while working on the London Underground. She holds several qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate level:

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering 1994
• Masters in Environmental Management 1998
• Masters in Engineering Science (Geotechnical Engineering) 2006
• Certificate D in Project Management APM UK
• Masters of Business Administration 2011

With over 20 years’ experience, Karen provides quality services and has a great ability to make complex things easy to understand. She is passionate about geotechnics and loves to help her clients clearly understand the issues at hand.
